Gallery Morada, in Islamorada in the Florida keys, has shown our work for years. They were looking for a pedestal table that would go well in their store and reflect the local environment and aesthetic. This is the table I designed for them, and sent off last week.
It’s always a pleasure to work on new designs which challenge me to go in different directions. Here I used patina layering differently than we normally do, to achieve a fade from one color to another, related one. In this case, the gallery owner had seen a piece with the green-to-blue gradient and requested something similar on the table’s inset sides, because it reminded her of the waters around the islands. I continued this pattern into the outer sides of the piece, creating another color combination (white blue-green above white ochre) which can be seen as the sky and the beach sand.
