RCB Pedestal Tables

These tables are constructed from brass sheet, patinaed, and bolted together, in the manner we use for wallpieces. Including the top, the standard size tables are about 23" tall - ideal as sofa endtables - and the base is 13" square. Tables are available in almost any set of our patinas, and I can tailor them to a wide range of heights. The small inset in the top (5" square) is best in a contrasting color, or with a knotwork inset. Knotwork insets are drawn from scratch, etched, patinaed, and relieved; each will be unique. The 15"x15"x½" glass top can be purchased locally in most places for less than it costs to order through me.

See below for tall pedestal table, low oblong table, and coffee table.

Octagon Coffee Table

— about 17 inches tall, for a 30 or 36 inch round glass top —

RCB Octagon Table - with zakhrafa knotwork
I designed the octagon table partly as an experiment in the structure, but primarily as a vehicle for a piece of zakhrafa - Arabesque knotwork design. The brass surface is etched away to leave the knotwork high. Then the piece is patinaed, and the surface relieved with sandpaper to bring up the design through the patination. I have not done as much knotwork in the Islamic style as I have in the Celtic, but I have always been fascinated by it. The table is intended to take a standard, easily available, 30" or 36" round glass top. The 30" top is shown.

Standard Pedestal Table

— about 23 inches tall, for a 15 inch square glass top —

RCB Pedestal Table - with repoussé face
Pedestal table #9, 'Narcissus', shown: dark green (outsides), stone grey (inset sides) and brown-on-brown copper repoussé face inset top.
This table is a collaboration. David hammered the face in copper, in the process called 'repoussé', which involves shaping sheet copper with hammers and punches by hammering into a leather sandbag, but with no forms or molds. The face is thus made entirely freehand and is unique.

RCB Pedestal Table - with random etch
Pedestal table #7 shown: silver brown (outsides), silver (inset sides) and relieved ferric chloride yellow random etched inset top.
The yellow color of the top piece was pure serendipity. It came about from resting overnight in the nearly-exhausted ferric chloride etchant used to etch the splatter-painted pattern. It probably cannot be repeated.
